Our honeymoon route in Japan
So the day is finally here and at last I can reveal our honeymoon route in Japan! It feels as though we have been waiting so long for this trip that I almost can’t believe we’re about to leave.
We decided to choose Japan for our honeymoon destination from a shortlist of places and I am so excited to return to this country.
I last visited 12 years ago on a solo trip and had a fantastic time, getting myself into all sorts of funny situations, like accidentally gate-crashing a Geisha tea party. So I can’t wait to go back with Mr A to share this crazy, beautiful, country with him.
The beginning of our honeymoon route in Japan
We’ll be spending three weeks in Japan and we have lots planned. There is so much I’m looking forward to it feels impossible to write it all down. However something I really can’t wait to see is the country’s cherry blossoms – the main reason we have waited ten months since our wedding to take our honeymoon.
Our first stop will, of course, be Tokyo. We plan to spend five days sight-seeing here and hope to experience a hanami (cherry blossom party). We’re staying in a cute Airbnb apartment and the owner has already been so lovely and accommodating in helping us to plan our visit.
From Tokyo, we will head to the Yudanake Shibu onsen area. This is home to some Japanese snow monkeys and will provide the chance to experience the famous onsen (public baths).
Historical Japan
The next part of our journey will see us moving on to historical Takayama. This city has streets lined with wooden merchants’ houses dating back to the Edo Period.
We’ve bought a Japan Rail Pass to make our travels easier (these must be bought in advance from outside Japan). So our next stop will be the World Heritage Site of Ainokura. Here we’ll be staying in a traditional grasshouse, which I’m so excited about.
Then it’s on to historic Kanazawa, before we head to beautiful Kyoto for a few days.
The finale of our honeymoon route in Japan
We’ll end our trip in Hiroshima, which was my favourite city on my last visit. I can’t wait to go back, especially as Mr A has promised to take me to Ōkunoshima (Rabbit Island). If you don’t know what this is you must Google a video of it immediately.
Lots of people have asked me what I’m looking forward to most about Japan and actually it’s been really hard to pin it down to just one thing. The people, the food, the culture, the history and the cherry blossoms are all going to be amazing, I know. But really, I just can’t wait to share it all with Mr A.
I’ve written before about the joy of meeting someone who shares my love of adventure and I’m so excited to have him by my side, to experience those “wow” moments and to make memories that will last us a lifetime. (As well as the benefit of having someone who can actually read a map, of course!)
So, we’ll see you on the other side!
Pin it for later…
Have a wonderful time Emily!
Thanks so much! We had the best time 🙂
It’s been so exciting seeing all your updates Emily – I’m sure it’ll be a shock to the system coming home after this but what an incredible itinerary for a honeymoon!
It was so amazing Shikha – as you know yourself now! Reading your updates definitely cheered me up when I got back to reality 🙂
