Planning our US roadtrip from Santa Fe to San Francisco
The days seem to be flying by as our #USroadtrip approaches and we still have so much to organise!
We now have the route planned and we’re busy trying to book accommodation and decide on some hikes in the national parks we’ll be hitting along the way.
After a few days in Santa Fe, where I’m planning to check out some of the museums and hit the shops, the first stop on our roadtrip will be the Grand Canyon.
After doing lots of trekking in South America and New Zealand, I can’t wait to do some serious hiking in the canyon. Although the problem at the moment seems to be trying to narrow down the choices!
We’ll spend a couple of nights in the canyon before driving to Las Vegas, via the Hoover Dam. After all of the stories I’ve heard about it I’m looking forward to seeing the craziness of Vegas.
The next day we’ll be on our way to Death Valley, before driving to Yosemite for some more hiking. I’ve heard so many good things about the park and I can’t wait to see it for myself.
Our trip ends in San Francisco, a city I’ve always wanted to visit. So any tips are welcome!
Love a US roadtrip . route 66 was the best!
LOVED Route 66! Wish I could go back and do it all over again!
Sounds fabulous! If you have time to visit Taos for hiking there are some great mountains!
Didn’t manage to make it there I’m afraid but did some great hikes in the Grand Canyon and Yosemite:)
Hi Emily we’re just planning something similar on our way back from NZ, but a loop from San Francisco. Trying to decide whether to arrange it all ourselves or book onto a small organised trip. When do you leave? Looks like such an exciting part of the world! Lucy
We did it ourselves and it’s really easy. The thing I loved most was the freedom to just stop whenever we felt like it. Give me a shout if you need any tips!
Gahh I still need to email you my recos! Jealous of your road trip. They really are the best way to see the US.
It was amazing and thanks so much for the tips. Always better to get them from a local;)
Ooooh, I did this exact route 10 years ago!! Minus the hiking in the canyon. 😉 Can I suggest that you time things so that you end up driving into Las Vegas at night? That’s what happened with us (by accident), but the impact was really magical. When we woke up and saw it the next morning, we were shocked by how small it actually was! Looking forward to reading the updates!! 🙂
What a great way to see Vegas! We got in a bit earlier but I was still blown away by it. I think no matter how many times people explain to you what it’s like, nothing can actually prepare you for its craziness!
