Visiting Victoria Falls in Zambia
Although we spent a lot of time on our #ZambiaHealth trip working, we did have some free afternoons to do a bit of exploring.
Our first view of the Zambezi River was very special. We’d been visiting clinics all day when one of the hospital directors offered to take us to a boat club to watch the sunset. The club was packed with local football enthusiasts as the national team was playing and we walked into a noisy, happy, environment, with people smiling and laughing and kids running around with their faces painted.
Outside the river was so beautiful and peaceful. Directly opposite us was an island, which is home to elephants and the locals delighted in telling us stories about a hippo who had decided to make himself at home in their swimming pool.
We were also lucky enough to be staying at a hotel on the river so woke up to beautiful views, along with a warning sign about some of the neighbours…
The next day we got up early and headed to Victoria Falls. We had been told not to expect too much as it is the ‘dry season’ and after visiting Iguazu Falls in Argentina and Niagara Falls in Canada I wondered how they would compare. But we needn’t have worried as they were truly breathtaking.
Sounds so amazing!!:-) 🙂
Thanks Sarah, it really was!:)
That looks amazing. Did you get to see any hippos yourself? I don’t know if I would be delighted or frightened.
It was:) No, we didn’t get to see any hippos unfortunately – just the photos of the one in the pool!
Close enough! I love the idea of finding a hippo in your pool. Well someone else’s pool anyway.
Haha, yes someone else’s pool is definitely better!;)
