Five reasons why an Albania 2024 holiday should be the next trip you book

I’m sure for many of you, like me, planning for next year’s trips is already in full swing and an Albania 2024 holiday should definitely be on your travel list.

If you’ve read my previous posts about Albania it will probably come as no surprise that I am singing this country’s praises as a fantastic choice for a European holiday.

We decided to visit Albania after seeing the prices creeping up in nearby Croatia and Montenegro. Once we started researching it we realised it had so much to offer. And I have to say, I really feel like we made the best decision. We travelled with our little adventurers and really fell in love with the country and its people.

We’re already plotting a return visit and here’s five reasons why I think a holiday in Albania in 2024 should be on your travel list.

1. Albania’s stunning scenery

As soon as I opened a guidebook on Albania I was captivated by its variety of landscapes and scenery. From the beautiful national park of Thethi in the north, with what looks like amazing hikes. To the Albania Riviera in the south, where a string of stunning beaches follow one another.

After the fun of our roadtrip through the Spanish white towns, we decided to hire a car in Albania to give us the freedom to explore more.

Unfortunately our schedule meant that we didn’t have time to travel north to the Alps. But the beaches of the Ionian Coast really are as stunning as they look in pictures! We’re also really enjoyed the coastal drive down to Ksamil.

2. Albania’s history

Albania’s long and colourful history means that it has a lot to offer history aficionados. From its Ottoman-era castles right up to the relics of the recent communist regime its inhabitants lived under.

We began our holiday in Albania in Berat and loved exploring this UNESCO protected town.

We then travelled to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Gjirokastra, which has a castle and beautifully preserved Ottoman architecture.

After some time at the beach, we ended our holiday in Albania in the capital of Tirana. The city still bears the hallmarks of communist architecture and is a fascinating place to explore.

3. The Albania Riviera

Forget France and Italy, the Albanian Riviera is where it’s at apparently. Although these once secret beaches are no longer as off the beaten track as they used to be and are now packed during the summer months. In terms of when is the best time to travel in Albania, we visited in June and things weren’t too busy. So it’s definitely worth considering the shoulder season.

4. The cost of travelling in Albania in 2024

During our holiday in Albania we were pleseantly surprised at how cheap things were. The flights themselves came in at £110 each and a hire car for two weeks was only £90. AirBnBs and apartments hovered around the £30 a night mark.

If you’re looking to keep costs down for your 2024 holiday, Albania may just be the way to go.

5. The people of Albania

One of the most special things about Albania is the wonderful people who live there. Without fail, every single person we met was so kind and friendly. They also especially love children, so it is super easy to travel there with little ones.
